An Update on Echo

Thank you for joining us on Sunday!

It was a beautiful day where as many as 3,500+ friends gathered, socialized, and enjoyed each other and our families. We got to witness a fantastic polo game, where eight players and more than 32 horses played the wonderful game of polo.

Unfortunately, during the game, there was an incident involving a horse (Echo) and player (Clifton Yandell). Clifton Yandell was not injured, however we learned that Echo passed away.

We appreciate everyone’s concerns about Clifton and Echo and wanted to share some background information on what a special horse Echo was.

About Echo:

Echo was 18 years old.

In the sport of polo, a horse this age is considered to be in its prime years. At this stage of their career, they are proven/reliable/loyal horses that understand the game, anticipate plays, and love the excitement of the sport.

The most beautiful thing in polo is the bond between the horse and his rider. Echo and Clifton had reached a point in their relationship of full trust, and they understood each other in a language of movements, gestures, signals, and caresses. They were bonded by a faith in each other, one meant to carry and the other meant to lead.

This particular horse, Echo, played in every tournament in the Midwest and has played several National Youth Tournament Series tournaments helping in the development of young players. Echo is responsible for teaching 25 kids to ride, giving them the confidence and opportunity to develop their skills. Echo was being considered for something called Integrative Equine Therapy (IEP) and was going to help people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and others with physical injuries or spinal disorders. Horses are known to speed up the healing process and help with emotional healing for those suffering with grief or severe anxiety. Known for their mild manner, some polo horses are well suited to become therapeutic horses. Echo was always able to make those kinds of special connections with her riders and caretakers.

Clifton loves his horses like they are part of his family.

She will be missed.
